Youngsters Sleep Rough to Highlight Plight of Homeless

Committed young people taking part in the BCHA-led National Citizen Service (NCS), slept rough for the night raising awareness and money for homeless people in Bournemouth this winter.

On 11th November 2016 a group of young people aged 16-17 years old took part in a 12-hour rough sleep in Bournemouth Town Centre to highlight the need to help homeless people off the streets, especially during the winter months, and also to raise money for BCHA’s James Michael House property, which is home to up to 11 homeless young people.

Children from Puddletown First School have been learning about agriculture, horticulture and rural life thanks to a new education fund that covers the whole of Dorset.


Pupils visit the RNLI for National Women in Engineering Day

The RNLI celebrated National Women in Engineering Day on 23 June with an event at its headquarters in Poole for young women from five local schools.

With women currently making up less than 10% of the engineering sector, the event aimed to inspire students from the Purbecks, Poole, Christchurch and Bournemouth areas to make a difference in the world by pursuing a career in engineering.

Bournemouth Dance Crew Achieve European Dream

A Bournemouth group of young teenagers led by BCHA (Bournemouth Churches Housing Association) recently raised funds to help a young dance crew from Bournemouth to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience at the European Street Dance Championships in Germany.

The dance group, who train at the DFA Studios in Boscombe, were able to attend the international event for the first time this year after inspiring young people from the area to fundraise on their behalf; raising over £900 in total.


Steele Raymond hails newly qualified commercial solicitor

A newly qualified solicitor at Steele Raymond has been hailed as a prime example of the legal talent coming out of Bournemouth University.

Shaun Guppy qualified as a solicitor and joins the corporate and commercial team of the Bournemouth law firm.

Having read law at Bournemouth University, Shaun completed his placement year at Steele Raymond before going on to complete his Legal Practice Course at the university.
